Ways out of violence: Together against violence against women

profile 16 days 2024 m21 4zu3

From 25 November to 10 December, thousands of organizations worldwide are calling for action against violence against women. Including Mission 21's partner organizations in Africa, Asia and Latin America are among them. Mission 21 in Basel is also raising awareness of the issue through a social media campaign.

Violence against women and non-binary people is unfortunately still widespread - the vast majority of these people experience violence at least once in their lives. This is a sad reality that Mission 21 is actively fighting against with partner organizations in Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America. A central focus of our work is the Overcoming sexualized violencein particular through prevention, education and support for those affected.

In 2023, we could achieve a total of 35,600 people (including 19,193 women, 12,160 men and 4,247 people with diverse or undocumented gender identities). Our partner organizations provide important training and counseling services that benefit both victims of sexualized and domestic violence and the general population. A particular focus is on Training for meneducated about gender-based violence, as well as on Activities to empower women and their empowerment.

Another important aspect of our work is the Advocacy: We advocate at a political level for the Changes in legislation that protect the rights of women and non-binary people and create a fairer society in the long term.

What happens during the 16-day campaign?

During the campaign, we report on our Social media channels about the activities of our partner organizations that deal with sexualized violence. We provide information and raise awareness on this important topic and give people in our global network a platform to share their experiences and projects.

We also offer in Basel one Self-defense course in cooperation with Wen Do Basel for female and non-binary employees. Such courses are a valuable method worldwide for empowering people to recognize and defend their own boundaries. A self-defense course for male employees is planned for 2025.
