In the backyards on a few square meters, the families learn to grow vegetables themselves. The women in particular take on this work. With the harvest, the families can feed themselves in a more balanced way, and the harvest surpluses can be used to generate additional income. One of the backyard gardeners says, not without pride: "In the past, we were often hungry. Today I have a green treasury."
The gardeners encourage each other and gain self-esteem and respect every day. This also helps to defuse family conflicts.
You too can support these women and their families so that the backyards in El Alto become even greener and the gardeners can produce surplus crops through professional advice and sell them on the local market. This will save the children from malnutrition and improve the family income.
