The gratifying mail came from Dharamsala, India, the seat of the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso. The message, written in English, acknowledges the work of Mission 21 in all its thematic fields.
"His Holiness greatly appreciates your work to promote justice, peace, reconciliation and education, and to fight poverty and disease worldwide. He therefore appreciates the work of your organization in building peace and development in the world." The letter was written by the Dalai Lama's personal secretary and concludes, "His Holiness sends you his prayers and good wishes."
Interfaith Peace Message
The reason for the message was a letter from Mission 21 to the spiritual leader of the Tibetans. In the context of interreligious peacebuilding and intercultural exchange, Mission 21 has been working for years with representatives of various religions and is increasingly engaging in exchange across religious boundaries.
The Dalai Lama's response is a sign of appreciation for the work of Mission 21 - and for the importance of interfaith cooperation worldwide. In particular, the opening sentence emphasizes the peacemaking potential of religions: "As you know, all great religions carry the message of love and compassion." In this sense, the Dalai Lama encourages Mission 21 to continue spreading this message and to promote peace and development in the world.
