Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine, Sternberg Rehabilitation Center
The Sternberg Rehabilitation Center is a facility supported by the entire worldwide Moravian Church. In addition to the Herrnhuters in Tanzania or Surinam, Mission 21 and one of its sponsoring associations, the Herrnhuter Mission in Switzerland, also help to ensure that the work on the West Bank can continue. In 1867, the Herrnhuters began caring for lepers in Jerusalem. In the meantime, leprosy is curable and the buildings have had a new function since the mid-1980s as a rehabilitation center for children and young people with disabilities. Many families are left to care for disabled family members on their own. The "Sternberg" supports these families and provides educational and vocational qualifications for people with disabilities to enable them to integrate socially into Palestinian society. Regardless of their religious affiliation, each person receives individual support in their immediate living environment.
