Divinity School of Chung Chi College
The Divinity School of Chung Chi College offers degree programs in Theology and Christian Studies. The seminary environment and interdisciplinary exchanges foster the development of a critical and cosmopolitan theology that builds bridges to other religions and cultural currents. The Divinity School takes a very progressive approach and is probably the only theological college in Southeast Asia to publicly recognize homosexuality. Since 1963, the Divinity School has been part of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and thus an integral part of a public university, which is exceptional in East Asia. Financially, however, the Divinity School is independent and receives annual contributions from several churches, including the Tsung Tsin Mission of Hong Kong (TTM), Mission 21's partner church. There is a decades-long relationship between Chung Chi College and the former Basel Mission (now Mission 21).
Tobias Brandner, ecumenical co-worker of Mission 21 and Swiss theologian, is the only teacher from Europe teaching at the Divinity School. He combines his teaching with his practical work as a prison chaplain. Tobias Brandner raises students' awareness in many ways that the church should not close its mind to people on the margins of society, but place them at the center of its work.
