CIC, Christian Industry Committee
In cooperation with the independent non-governmental organization Labor Action China (LAC), the Hong Kong Christian Industrial Committee (CIC) is campaigning for the rights of workers in southern China who have been affected by silicosis and benzene. By awarding scholarships, the CIC has enabled the schooling of children of silicosis victims since 2011. With financial support from Mission 21, CIC has been launching a new project since 2015 to provide silicosis victims with an alternative source of income and support them in setting up their own businesses. CIC provides them with support through the granting of interest-free loans, counseling and quarterly visits. Through such measures, those affected regain their self-esteem and self-confidence in the long term and are reintegrated into society. The CIC has been registered as an independent and non-profit organization since 2009.
