Mission 21's country coordinator describes the situation in Cameroon as less than encouraging. Cameroon is one of the countries most affected by Corona in sub-Saharan Africa, based on the number of cases. Hospitals are ill-prepared for a wave of infection, even though special centers for Covid 19 cases have been established in each region.
Lumumba Mukong nevertheless draws confidence and trust. Among other things, from positive news worldwide, which he specifically seeks to encourage.
Active in many ways against Corona crisis
Positive news from Cameroon itself is also provided by Mission 21's partner church, the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, PCC. In cooperation with us, it is taking action against the crisis in a variety of ways.
- It organizes further training on proper behavior for people from the parishes, who then pass on their knowledge. By the end of April, around 170 "multipliers" had attended these training sessions.
- Public campaigns, with contributions in the media, radio spots or flyers, explain which hygiene measures are to be observed - sometimes in a funny and also musically upbeat way, in order to also reach younger people.
- And the PCC produces and distributes sanitary aids such as simple wooden racks with water dispensers and special soaps, as well as hand disinfection and face masks, to supply the population.
The Presbyterian Church thus #SignsOfHope in a very active and practical way in a severely affected Cameroon.
