The Bible offers inspiration for active engagement against the climate crisis. This was the conclusion drawn by three experts from three continents in Mission 21's latest webinar "Seeing the Bible with different eyes", which was attended by around 70 participants from 23 countries.
Dr. David Castillo (Costa Rica) used Isaiah 14:3-8 to emphasize how biblical texts give trees a voice to criticize socio-economic injustice and environmental destruction - and to inspire hope for change. Rev. Dr. Brigitte Rabarijaona (Kenya) took up the migration story of Ruth and Naomi and showed how mutual support and a new awareness of connectedness can inspire solutions to the climate crisis. Dr. Bryan K. M. Mok (Hong Kong) interpreted the story of the "Fall of Man" from Genesis 3 as a reminder to heal lost relationships with God, nature and each other.
The webinar illustrated how biblical texts and global perspectives can motivate us to tackle the challenges of the climate crisis together.
